The Myanmar Football Federation will hold the semifinal and final men’s matches of the 2013 SEA Games football at the capital’s Wunna Theikdi Stadium, while the men’s group matches that will include the national team will be held at Yangon’s Thuwanna Youth Training Stadium.
Officials from Ministry of Sports announced the location of the matches, but did not announce the groups yet. “The semifinals and final matches will be held at Wunna Theikdi Stadium and another group match which does not include the Myanmar team will be held in the same stadium. The group matches including the host team will compete at Yangon,” said Minister Tint Hsan.
Women’s matches will be held at a stadium that is still under the construction in Mandalay. The federation is constructing two 30,000-seat stadiums in the capital for the matches.
“Wunna Theikdi and Zayyar Thiri sport grounds are nearly finished now,” an official at the site said. “Seats have been put in place as well as lighting and the score board. All that’s left is to pave the road outside the stadiums,” he said.
Indoor stadiums and swimming pools will also be constructed besides the sport grounds and they are reportedly 65 percent completed. All construction is to be completed by June for the games will be held in three cities from December 11 to 22.
