Myanmar to participate in Asean University Games

The Myanmar team will compete in the 16th Asean University Games which begins in Vientiane, Laos on December 9.
Nine Asean countries will take part in this year’s events, which end on December 20. The countries are Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar and host Laos.
A 56-member Myanmar team will compete in six events: track and field, volleyball, football, table tennis, separk takraw and tennis.
Myanmar took part in the Asean University Games for the first time in December 2010 when the 15th event was held in Thailand. It won three bronze medals in football, separk takraw and tennis events.
The country has offered to host the 17th Asean University Games scheduled to be held in 2014.
