The Union Election Commission (UEC) is holding a meeting with region/state election sub-commissions to discuss election processes and a future strategic plan, UEC member Myint Naing told the Daily Eleven.

The meeting started in Grand Amara Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on April 9.

"At the meeting, election processes and strategic plans are being discussed," said Myint Naing. "I gave a brief account of the strategic plan and processes before, during and after election."

The meeting is being attended by chairmen and members of region and state election sub-commissions from across Myanmar and election officers totalling about 150.

The UEC has already announced a by-election to be held this year and there are 12 vacant constituencies across the country.

The commission has announced that UEC chairman Hla Thein and members, chairmen and members of region and state election sub-commissions and officials from International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) held a meeting in February to review the strategic plan (2018-2021) of the commission. The project with 11 chapters was drawn by UEC and IFES.
