Girl killed by Kachin landmine

young girl died instantly after three sisters hit a landmine at a farm near Mansi Township, Banmaw District, Kachin State.

Alaymi, 40, of Pyin Oo Lwin, was working with her young daughters at their farm on the day of the blast.

Tuhtaung, eight, died on the spot while her two injured sisters, 16 and 22, were transported to Banmaw Hospital by a charity named Myittashin.

No case has been filed with the township police.

“They're my constituents. Her sisters are both students. They're not in a critical condition. Farm animals often set off landmines,” said MP Min Min for Mansi Township.

Tuhtaung is the third fatality from landmines in Kachin State this year. A Lwelsoon villager in Moekaung Township was killed on February 17 and a resident from Moenyin Township died on February 19.
