A plane from Myanmar National Airlines (MNA) en route from Yangon to Myeik made an emergency landing at Yangon International Airport on June 12 due to a mechanical failure in the landing gear.

“The pilot heard a noise from the landing gear and decided to return to the Yangon international airport. We checked the plane and we will continue to as the noise can still be heard while the plane is airborne,” said Lwin Moe Zaw, chief engineer of the MNA.

The aircraft, an ATR, has been in service for 2 years for the MNA and regular maintenance is always done, sources said.

A Boeing from the MNA en route from Yangon to Singapore needed to lower its altitude from 37,000 feet to 25,000 feet on June 7 due to bad weather.

The MNA honoured the pilot and his crew members for their right decision for the safety of passengers and the plane and the MNA apologized to the passengers for their worry. It said it will continue to make safety of the passengers as its first priority.
